This morning the BBC reported:
A new unified United States military command for Africa is coming into full operation today. The creation of AFRICOM is recognition by the USA that Africa and security issues on the continent are now a priority. It reflects concerns about tackling Islamist extremism, securing oil supplies, and countering Chinese influence in Africa. AFRICOM's headquarters are in Stuttgart in Germany.
Well, Geography has never been a strong side of the Americans...

Yes, the Americans have indeed very little interest in geography. Most of them have only recently discovered where Alaska is, and that it belongs to the USA.
But any country outside their own borders is almost impossible to comprehend for Americans. It must be their education system that causes such a level of arrogant ignorance.
